èƵ Establishes Educational Partnership With UB Pharmacy School
Oct 30, 2015AMHERST, N.Y. – èƵ College and the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have formed a new collaborative agreement that will provide students the opportunity to earn a doctor of pharmacy degree in a shorter amount of time.
A memorandum of agreement was formally signed on Oct. 30 by èƵ President Gary A. Olson; Dr. Michael Brogan, èƵ vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college; Dr. James O’Donnell, dean of the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; and Dr. Charles Zukoski, UB provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
“èƵ College’s strength and long-standing excellence in health sciences education aligns well with the University at Buffalo’s excellent pharmacy program,” said Olson. “Together we will offer the students of Western New York yet another opportunity to acquire a first-rate education.”
Under the 3+4 agreement, students will complete three years of undergraduate study in èƵ’s natural sciences major and then apply to UB’s pharmacy program. Once accepted, students will have their first-year pharmacy courses applied toward completion of their bachelor’s degree at èƵ.
Rather than taking four years to complete a bachelor’s degree and another four years to complete the doctor of pharmacy degree, students will complete both programs in seven years. The pharmacy program will guarantee spaces each year for qualified èƵ students.
“With èƵ’s exceptional academic reputation in the health sciences, we are well positioned to provide our students the opportunity to make a seamless transition to pursue a doctor of pharmacy at one of the leading research institutions in the country,” said Brogan. “This collaboration represents another example of èƵ expanding and enriching educational experiences for our students.”
The UB Pharmacy School, which is the only one in the SUNY system, is ranked among the top pharmacy schools in the U.S. and one of the top departments in the world in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and biopharmaceutics.
Discussing the UB-èƵ partnership, O’Donnell said, “The University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences values our strong collaboration with èƵ, and this 3+4 agreement will further solidify this partnership. We look forward to having their best and brightest students as members of our PharmD program.”
